Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 28, 2026
1. Overview
MealCue LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the MealCue app at mealcue.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal data.
2. Information We Collect
Account information
We collect your email address when you sign in. We use email-only authentication via one-time passcode (OTP) — no passwords are created or stored.
Pantry & preferences
We store the pantry items, dietary preferences, food allergies, dislikes, health goals, and meal planning settings you provide. This data is tied to your account and stored in our database.
Food photos & barcode scans
When you scan a food item using your camera, MealCue accesses your device camera in real time to read barcodes. When you upload or capture a photo to identify ingredients, that image is sent to Google Cloud Vision for processing. Images are used only to identify food items and are not stored by MealCue after processing is complete.
Usage data & analytics
We collect behavioral events (such as which features you use and pages you visit) through Vercel Analytics. This data is used in aggregate to understand how the app is used and to improve the Service. We also store UTM attribution parameters locally on your device to understand how you found MealCue.
Support messages
If you submit feedback or a bug report, we collect the message content, the feedback category, the page you were on, and optionally your email address if you provide one for follow-up.
Local storage
MealCue stores some preference data locally on your device (such as healthy eating survey answers and attribution parameters) using your browser's localStorage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers independently.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, personalize, and improve the Service
- Generate meal plans and shopping lists based on your pantry and preferences
- Authenticate your account and maintain your session
- Respond to support requests and feedback
- Understand how MealCue is used so we can make it better
4. Third-Party Services
MealCue uses the following third-party providers. Each handles data according to their own privacy practices:
- Supabase — stores your account, pantry, preferences, and support messages. See supabase.com/privacy
- Google Cloud Vision — processes food photos to identify ingredients. See Google Cloud Privacy Notice
- Vercel — hosts the app and collects anonymized usage analytics. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy
5. Camera Access
MealCue requests access to your device camera only when you use the barcode scanner or photo capture features. The camera feed is processed locally or sent to Google Cloud Vision for ingredient identification. We do not record, store, or transmit live video. Camera access is never used in the background.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account and pantry data for as long as your account is active. Support messages are retained to help us identify recurring issues. If you would like your data deleted, contact us using the information in Section 9 and we will process your request.
7. Your Choices
You can update or delete your pantry items and preferences at any time from within the app. To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us directly. You can clear locally stored data by clearing your browser's local storage for mealcue.app.
8. Children's Privacy
MealCue is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
